A What's On Guide to St. Patrick's Weekend, Liverpool

We're nearly a month away from St Patrick's Day 2019 and what a line-up we have for you this year.

We're kicking things off early on Saturday 2nd March with A Big Quiz of Ireland. Hosted by Liverpool quiz king James MacGregor, winner of ITV's The Chase, the quiz will test your Irish knowledge, with music rounds, picure rounds and much more!

Included in your ticket is a bowl of homemade Irish stew, with a veggie option available too. Cathy Carter will be supplying the fantastic music right after the quiz so why not make a night of it!

Tickets just £5, available by clicking here! Alternatively, call us on 0151 263 1808 or email info@liverpoolirishcentre.org.

For fans of Irish film, we've got another cracking event on Tuesday 5th March with a special screening of Sean Murray's latest film, Unquiet Graves.

“Unquiet Graves offers a gritting, enraging examination of the state collusion that accommodated (and sometimes actively drove) the murderous actions of the so-called Glenanne Gang. Vital, angry stuff.” The Irish Times

Director Sean Murray will be in attendance on the night to present the film and will host a Q&A right afterwards. Tickets £6, available by clicking here! Alternatively, give us a call or an email.

And on Friday 8th March we're absolutely thrilled to host a screening of another award-winning film, and indeed the premiere this side of the Irish Sea! Voted Best Film at the 2018 Dublin International Film Festival, as well as the winner of over a half dozen other awards, The Lonely Battle of Thomas Reid will grip you from the off.

This documentary come docudrama tells the tale of the Irish farmer Thomas Reid who for years has been locked in a gruelling battle with his neighbour, U.S. microchip manufacturer Intel. The multinational wants to expand and has its eye on Reid’s land. Eager to boost employment in the region, the Irish authorities are doing their utmost to force Reid into a sale. But the farmer has no intention of leaving his 300-year-old ancestral home, where he lives alone, surrounded by cows and chickens. The tenacious eccentric Reid proves to be a formidable opponent of the system.

Tickets £6, available by clicking here! You can get yours by calling or emailing us too. Popcorn provided!

One of our most special days of the year takes place on Sunday 10th March. For as long as anyone can remember, the Irish community in Liverpool has met at the Irish Centre to celebrate the Mass of St Patrick. It's perhaps the most special event of the year, when people don shamrocks over their hearts and unite with those we love to remember those we've lost.

Led by Father Sean, the mass will begin at 1pm. We'll be open from 12pm. Please arrive in good time if you require a seat; they go fast. After mass, the superb Liverpool Ceili Band will provide the afternoon’s entertainment. There'll be live GAA too, and the shop will be open serving all your favourite Irish goodies.

There's no charge for the day, but donations are most welcome!

And that leads us to our St Patrick's Weekender—three days and nights of some of the best live Irish music you'll find anywhere in Liverpool!

We're kicking things off on Friday 15th March with the fantastic Blackstairs Rebel Band from Wexford, back again for another cracking night of Irish ballads, trad, rebel, folk and Irish drinking songs. The perfect way to kick-off the Paddy's weekend celebrations!

Tickets £7, available by clicking here, or by calling or emailing us!

The great music keeps on coming on Saturday 16th March with The Knights. Hailing from Tyrone and Armagh, The Knights have blown crowds away with their contemporary blend of Irish Folk, Irish Trad, Pop and Rock. One for fans of The Whistlin' Donkeys!

It's the bands first time playing this side of the Irish Sea, giving fans a unique opportunity to enjoy one of the best around!

Tickets £8, available by clicking here or by emailing or calling us.

And onto the big day—Sunday 17th March.

We're open from 12 till 12, with live music round the clock from Shea Doolin, The Liverpool Ceili Band, a very special guest all the way from Hungary, and Michael Coyne!

As always the afternoon is free. There'll be homemade Irish food, live sport and live music for you to enjoy! Tickets for the evening with Michael Coyne cost £6. Get yours by clicking here! Alternatively, give us a call or email and we'll sort you out.
