John Mitchels Veteran’s Match
Sunday, March 2nd, 12:30pm, Greenbank
It’s been over a year since we have lost our beloved friend and team mate, Tony Grimes. Tony played a huge part in promoting Irish culture in Liverpool in his lifetime, be it moving up through the underage ranks with John Mitchels to helping in the Irish Centre. Anyone who has been lucky to bump into Tony just one once, for only half a second, will remember his warm smile and kind demeanour.
John Mitchels have organised a Veteran’s match to remember Tony’s life and to raise important funds for Woodlands who helped care for Tony. The match will contain two teams made up of Ulster/ Munster players against those from Leinster/Connacht. It is with great pride that a lot of our older players hail from this great city and therefore, they will be sided with whatever province their ancestors hailed from!
This match is proudly sponsored by the Danny Sullivan Group sourced by John McNiffe and Dowhigh Ltd and Flannery which Michael and Trevor Murray helped get. Irish TV with the legendary Michael Logan will be in attendance, a commemorative polo shirt will be available for each player, refreshments will be on offer and most importantly; there are physios and first aiders!
After a sporting game, there will be entertainment in the Irish Centre where we can recuperate and celebrate Tony’s life.
In the build-up to the big game; we will have pen pics on each of the players on our social media. Keep an eye on this!
