Cú Chulainn

ree

Cú Chulainn, whose original name was Sétanta, earned his new name after killing a ferocious guard dog belonging to the blacksmith Culann. In a show of remorse and to compensate Culann, Sétanta offered to take the place of the dog and protect Culann’s home until a replacement pup could be found and trained. The druid Cathbad then declared that, from that day forward, Sétanta would be known as Cú Chulainn, meaning “Hound of Culann”
