My name is Julian Loida and I'm a Boston-based folk percussionist, pianist and composer and I’m touring the UK this spring to support my upcoming record.
After playing in folk bands for years, I began composing music for the vibraphone, piano and voice. My music has Celtic, West-African, Celtic, minimalist, songwriter, and French-cinematic music. I think of my work as songs and stories that happen to be wordless. I love engaging my audience, bringing them into both my sound world and the stories that led to each piece from vulnerable heartbreak and family death to my synesthesia and hope filled muse.
My grandmother was an immigrant from Belfast and it wasn’t until she passed away that my career took off in the Boston celtic-folk scene. My grandmother lied about her age to marry my grandpa and start a family, it was only after nearly 50-years that we found out…though she brought to her grave an entire world. I’m making a pilgrimage back to the UK with my music to share what stories I know, I don’t know, and I wish I knew.
